Our
Story

History and transition of this studio~

In this 100+ year old building that holds some Somerville history, the last few decades in the space have been home to female artists of various mediums. A florist, a few ceramic artists, and the most recent artist for the past decade has been Amy Lou Stein. She created her studio workshop called Craftwork here at 259 Highland Ave. and welcomed so many folks for hands-on classes in knitting, sewing, eco-printing, natural dye workshops. But she also hosted artists for pop-ups workshops and special events. New proprietress, Jenn, met Amy Lou via the herbalism community and Jenn started teaching her lunar cycles workshops and hosting other community gatherings in the studio space. In the Summer of 2024, Amy Lou moved abroad and Jenn took over the space in its current new iteration. Jenn is honored to continue the tradition of female artists inhabiting this special spot in Somerville for creating + hosting folks!

Here at Constellation, it is a slow living, creative, experiment. We are aiming to do things a little differently. Pricing will most often regularly be sliding scale so that there are options for folks to experience our offerings without it being out of reach. We welcome folks of all ages, genders, religions, backgrounds, etc. We want to be a third space, but with healthy boundaries for both the space itself and for the facilitators. We aim to continue to evolve and share with as much loving open minds and hearts as we have capacity for. Thank you for understanding this mission and supporting us whenever possible so that we can be around for years to come.
